Tragedy at Bilsham Corner
From a local newspaper report published on 30th January 1944.
On returning from an abortive raid, Mosquito HX916 of 487 Sqn., hampered by fog, flew into the ground at Bilsham Corner. The aircraft disintegrated and debris, including bombs, was hurled along the line of the crash, much of which smashed into Nos. 88 & 89 Bilsham Corner. The crew, Flying officer J. Hyndman & Warrant Officer G. Matthews were killed along with two civilians, 82 year old George Rogers and little 9 year old Mary Ifould.
